New Staff Profiles: The Department of Medicine is delighted to welcome Dr. Laura Chu and Dr. Nasser AlOhaly, both in the Division of Neurology, to the active staff!
Dr. Laura Chu: Laura joins the Division of Neurology as a Clinician Teacher and Assistant Professor as of October 1, 2024. Laura obtained her MD from McMaster University in 2017, followed by Neurology residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Toronto. She has recently completed a Master of Health Professions Education at Queen’s University. Laura has been serving as a clinical associate in the BARLO MS Centre since August 2023. With her advanced training in education, Laura will continue to participate in medical education projects.
Outside of work, Laura enjoys baking, getting her sushi fix, hiking and skiing, and spending time with her husband and new puppy.
Dr. Nasser AlOhaly: Nasser joins the Division of Neurology as a Clinician Teacher and Assistant Professor starting October 1, 2024. He obtained his MBBS in 2011 and completed a one-year internship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Nasser then moved to Edmonton in 2013 to undertake residency training at the University of Alberta. Initially, he completed four years of neurosurgical training before discovering a passion for medical neurology, leading him to restart in the Adult Neurology program. He subsequently completed a clinical fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Central Neuroinflammatory Disorders in 2022. Since October 2022, he has been serving as a clinical associate at the BARLO MS Centre and has completed the Master Teacher program. With his advanced training in education, Nasser will continue to contribute to resident education projects.
