Day to Day

Daily Structure:

  • Sign-over/Team Based Morning Report:  8:00am sharp.
    • Residents and clerks from each team meet their staff from 8-9 to review new admissions and do case-based teaching.
    • Teams meet in the following rooms :
      • Team A = 14CC-047 (Small conference room)
      • Team B = 14CC-079- Code: 4994# (Resident lounge)
      • Team C = 14CC-77a (Marsh Cooper room)
      • Team D = 14CC-084 (Large conference room)
  • Bullet Rounds: 9:00am or 9:15 am.
    • One team attends bullets at a time. Housestaff confer with nursing and Allied Health to rapidly review patients and develop discharge plans. Bullet Rounds should last no more than 15 minutes per team. During bullet rounds, please enter orders as they are discussed using the available portable computers.
      • Teams A (9am) & B (9:15am) meet in the small conference room (14-047)
      • Teams C (9:15am) & D (9am) meet in the large conference room (14-084)
  • First Priorities: After Bullet Rounds, patients scheduled for discharge that day should be seen first and discharged, preferably before 11am. The senior residents should see the patients in the Step-Up Unit first, to determine whether they are stable enough for transfer to the ward.
  • Noon-rounds: At the beginning of the month, a schedule is circulated by the chief resident or Betty-Anne (the administrative assistant), highlighting the scheduled noon-rounds for the month. These are high yield topics. Lunch is provided.
  • End of the Day: You will typically meet with your team at the end of the day to “run the list” and to handover to the on-call resident.
