Dr. Emily Swinkin: Emily is joining the Division of Neurology as a Clinician Teacher and Assistant Professor as of May 1, 2024. She has expertise in movement and degenerative disorders and has been on staff at the Neuropsychiatry Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and at the Movement Disorder Clinic at Toronto Western Hospital over the last 2.5 years.
Emily completed her MD at Queen’s University in 2014. In 2023 she received a teaching award from UHN for her contributions to postgraduate education and was also nominated for two other division-wide teaching/mentorship awards.
She has research and clinical interests in improving quality of care for patients with movement disorders and improving end-of-life care with a neuropalliative. In collaboration with the movement disorders clinic at Baycrest, she has been researching ways to enhance neuropalliative approaches in movement disorders care and looks forward to bringing these principles to her work at St. Michael's Hospital.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys reading fiction and dabbling in creative writing. She also loves running and biking the ravine and lakeside trails near her home in Toronto's east end and hosting family and friends for a rousing game of ping-pong.
