CTU Overview

Daily Structure:

  • Sign-over/Team Based Morning Report:  8:00am sharp.
    • Review new admissions and do case-based teaching.
    • Teams meet in the following rooms :
      • Team A = 14CC-047
      • Team B = 14CC-079
      • Team C = 14CC-77a 
      • Team D = 14CC-084
  • Bullet Rounds: 9:00am or 9:15 am.
    • One team attends bullets at a time.
    • Rapidly review patients with allied health and develop discharge plans. Please enter orders as they are discussed using the available portable computers.
      • Teams A (9am) & B (9:15am) meet in the small conference room (14-047)
      • Teams C (9:15am) & D (9am) meet in the large conference room (14-084)
  • First Priorities: Patients scheduled for discharge that day should be seen first and discharged, preferably before 11am. The senior residents should see the patients in the Step-Up Unit first, to determine whether they are stable enough for transfer to the ward.
  • Noon-rounds: Lunch is provided. 
  • End of the Day: You will typically meet with your team at the end of the day to “run the list” and to handover to the on-call resident.

Educational Activities: 

  • Typically, you should receive a rounds schedule from the CMR
  • With the exception of Wednesdays, there will usually be daily educational sessions on a variety of topics in internal medicine from 12 to 1 pm, in14CC-084.
  • Lunch is provided.
  • On Wednesday between 12 and 1 pm, Medical Grand Rounds take place in either the Li Ka Shing 2nd floor auditorium or in the Paul Marshall lecture theatre on B1, Donnelly Wing.
