New Staff Profiles

The Department of Medicine is delighted to welcome Dr. Brandon Tang, Division of General Internal Medicine, and Dr. Natasha Rupani, Dr. Danielle Cuthbert and Dr. Michael Scott, all from the Division of Hematology/Oncology, to the active staff!

 

 Dr. Brandon Tang:  Dr. Brandon Tang: Brandon joins the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Clinician Educator and Assistant Professor as of July 1, 2024. He obtained his MD at the University of Toronto in 2018, followed by Core Internal Medicine residency at the University of British Columbia. He completed his GIM subspecialty training at the University of Toronto, as well as a Clinician-Scholar Fellowship at the HoPingKong Centre for Excellence in Education and Practice. He also received the Robert Maudsley Fellowship for Studies in Medical Education from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In 2018, he completed a Master of Science in System Leadership and Innovation at the University of Toronto. In 2024, he completed a Master of Medical Science in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School. He also holds advanced training in point of care ultrasound. Brandon has been a clinical associate at St. Michael’s Hospital since July 2023.

Brandon’s primary scholarly interest is how systems thinking and quality improvement principles can be applied in medical education. He currently leads the GEMINI MedED initiative which aims to leverage "big data" from electronic health records for the purposes of resident feedback, learning, and assessment. He has served as a Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on numerous provincial and national peer-reviewed grants, and is a Founding Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the Vancouver Notes textbook. Finally, he is an active member of the International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE) community and had served three terms as a conference Co-Chair.

In his free time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, and playing pickleball with his wife, Linda.

Dr. Natasha Rupani:  Natasha joins the Division of Hematology/Oncology as a Clinician in Quality and Innovation and Assistant Professor as of July 1, 2024. Natasha completed her Doctor of Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Ottawa, followed by her Hematology Residency at Queen’s University. In 2022, she completed the Alexandra Yeo Thrombosis & Hemostasis Fellowship as well as a Master of Science (MSc) in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto. She concurrently completed a national CanVECTOR Thrombosis Research Fellowship in 2021. Natasha has been a Clinical Associate at St. Michael’s Hospital since October 2022.

Natasha brings expertise in adult thrombosis medicine, hemostasis, and complex non-malignant hematology. Her QI work will include evaluating anticoagulation strategies in cancer populations, anticoagulation stewardship, and developing perioperative tools in thrombosis for various specialty surgeries. She will continue her work with Life Labs to advocate for appropriate specialized coagulation testing, expand on improving VTE prophylaxis in ambulatory cancer patients, and optimize the care for patients with coagulation disorders. She will also participate in trainee education. 

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling the world with her husband and son! 

DC

Dr. Danielle Cuthbert:  Dani joins the Division of Hematology/Oncology as a Clinician Teacher and Assistant Professor as of July 1, 2024. She received her MD from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine followed by Internal Medicine residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. She completed her Medical Oncology residency and Breast Oncology fellowship at the University of Toronto.  She has also completed the Master Teacher Program.

With her advanced training in teaching, Dani will fully participate in learner education, including working with medical students and residents. One of her educational goals is to foster more inclusive and diverse training programs in medical oncology. Lastly, Dani plans to continue her advocacy work to dismantle systemic barriers and create more equitable oncologic care for marginalized communities.

In her spare time, Dani enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her family, especially her 10-month-old son, Gabriel.

 

MS

Dr. Michael Scott:  Mike joins the Division of Hematology/Oncology as a Clinician Teacher and Assistant Professor as of July 1, 2024.  He completed his MD at McMaster University in 2015 and internal medicine and adult hematology residency at the University of Toronto.  He was Chief Medical Resident at Mt. Sinai Hospital in 2018/2019. Mike has just completed his Master of Health Professions Education at the School of Health Professions Education, Maastricht University, NL. He has been a clinical associate with the division since May 2022. His clinical practice includes general non-malignant hematology with a focus on immune cytopenias, hemochromatosis, and porphyria. 

Mike will continue to fully participate in trainee education. Already as a clinical associate, he has taken on leadership roles at St. Michael’s and the University of Toronto as an Academic Advisor for the Core Internal Medicine and Adult Hematology Programs  and a Rotation Coordinator for the Junior Attending Rotation in the Adult Hematology Program. He is also the hematology program lead for the Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration (TAAAC).

He enjoys reading, and is passionate about travel having visited (so far) 38 countries. His favourite city to visit is Mexico City and he is happy to share tips for anyone interested in going :) He is cat-dad to Tundra, a fluffy 1 year old male Siberian.
