Department of Medicine Weekly Roundup - June 13 - Announcement from PIC

Page 3 of 10: Announcement from PIC

Dear DOM Family,

As of August 31, 2024, I will be stepping down as PIC.  I accepted the role of EVP Clinical Programs and CMO at Unity Health Toronto, effective September 1, 2024. I will remain a member of the DOM and the SMPA, as I believe strongly in these institutions, and in particular, of the critical importance of our academic mandate.

Our DOM Deputy PIC, Natalie Wong, has kindly agreed to be the Interim PIC, and this appointment will be formalized and announced by the interim CMO later this summer. I know that she will be an outstanding PIC and that all of you will provide her with tremendous support during the transition. I am very grateful to her and extremely excited to work with her in this role!

Making the decision to take this new role has not been easy for me because working with all of you has been such an honour. Thanks to each of you for the privilege of being the PIC of this wonderful Department. I have learned from you over the years and you have inspired me. Over the past 7 years, we have laughed together, cried together and learned from each other. I hope that we can continue to work together and care for each other through these challenging times and toward a better future for patients, learners and all of us in our DOM family.

I would like to particularly thank the Division Heads, past and present, who worked tirelessly to grow and support their Divisions. You have been responsive, caring, kind and collegial. Moreover, your commitment to our learners, patient care teams, and Department members is inspirational. I also want to thank the Education committee, who guided our Departmental efforts in continuing to provide outstanding experiences for the learners. Thanks to Jessie and Jan and everyone in the SMPA who provide us with strong financial stewardship; they were amazing partners on policies to promote equity. Thanks to the education coordinators and physician admins who facilitate our DOM activities. And finally, thanks to Julia and Jessica, who consistently ensure our Department runs smoothly and that we continue to be a cohesive DOM family.

Please join me in thanking Natalie!
