Congratulations to Dr. Sharmistha Mishra and her team on their recent publication in Nature Communications. The study, titled “Impact of unequal testing on vaccine effectiveness estimates across two study designs: a simulation study,”

Notably, the findings from this paper were cited by the World Health Organization in its recent guidance on strengthening study design for vaccine effectiveness research using real-world data — an important recognition of the impact DOM researchers are making globally.

We’re thrilled to share that Dr. Ronita Lee has been awarded the University of Toronto's MOTP (Medicine/Obstetrics/Pediatrics) Award for Excellence in Curriculum-Based Teaching. This honour, voted on by residents, recognizes Dr. Lee’s exceptional contributions to Academic Half Day (AHD) teaching and her dedication to medical education.

Congratulations, Ronita, on this well-deserved recognition of your impact and excellence in teaching!

Congratulations to several members of the St. Michael’s Hospital geriatrics team whose outstanding research was recognized at this year’s Canadian Geriatrics Society (CGS) Annual Meeting:

  • Dr. Jenny Huang, clinical associate in geriatrics at SMH, received the Cowdry Award for her population-based study on dementia rates and care needs in older adults with traumatic brain injury, incorporating the role of social determinants of health. This impactful work also earned her the President’s Award from the American Geriatrics Society.
  • Dr. Natasha Lane, geriatric medicine resident at SMH, was awarded the Dr. Jack & Dr. Asa Award for her systematic review on managing sexual expressions of potential risk in adults with major neurocognitive disorders.
  • Dr. Eric Wong, clinical associate in geriatrics at SMH, had one of his PhD papers recognized as a Top 10 Most Important Paper of the Year. Focused on the cost-effectiveness of geriatrician-led comprehensive assessments, the paper was also featured in a Journal of the American Geriatrics Society commentary and podcast, and highlighted at the American Geriatrics Society Annual Meeting.

Congratulations to all !!!
