The Department of Medicine proudly congratulates Dr. Laurent Brochard on being named the 2025 recipient of the Eaton Scholar Researcher of the Year Award in Clinical Research!

This prestigious award recognizes sustained excellence in clinical science and honours Dr. Brochard’s outstanding contributions as a scientist, mentor, and leader in the field. Natalie Wong, on behalf of the Department of Medicine extends warm congratulations to Dr. Darren Yuen and his research team on the acceptance of their manuscript in Science Translational Medicine!

The paper, titled “Podocyte YAP and TAZ hyperactivation drives glomerular epithelial proliferative diseases in mice and humans,” was led by lab manager Xiaolin He, with significant contributions from nephrology trainees Paraish Misra and Caitriona McEvoy. We’re proud to share that Paraish will be starting a faculty position at McGill Nephrology this fall, and Caitriona is currently faculty at Trinity College Dublin.

This exciting project was initially supported by philanthropic funding from the SMH Foundation, which helped launch the work and secure CIHR funding in later stages.

Congratulations again to Dr. Yuen and his team on this exceptional achievement!

As mentioned at MAC, the organisation is inviting staff and physicians to complete an engagement survey. The survey will be available for completion from May 26 to June 13.

Communications has prepared a toolkit in case (attached) you would find it helpful in responding to any questions about the survey from your department members. It also includes messages and strategies to optimise uptake.

Please contact Ana Gajic if you require more information about this material.
