Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to announce that Dr. Laura Simone is appointed to the role of PGME Faculty Lead, Fellowships effective March 1, 2025. The Faculty Lead, Fellowships is responsible for strategic oversight and direction of Fellowships in PGME. This role will also be an essential support for our Area of Focused Competence (AFC) programs. This position reflects the Faculty’s commitment to supporting our learners to have an excellent educational experience within a supportive learning environment which is the focus of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine’s Education Goals.
Dr. Simone brings leadership experience as the Program Director for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Royal College Fellowship at SickKids and UofT. She is an academic clinician and associate staff physician in pediatric emergency medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children, and Assistant Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto.
Among other roles, she is also the Director of the PEM Postgraduate Simulation & Competency Curriculum, Medical Director of the PEM divisional academic half day, and is a member of the Royal College PEM subspecialty committee, being instrumental in developing PEM national training standards and the development of licensing and in-training exams. She is also the newly appointed co-Director for the SickKids Annual PEM Conference and the PEM Division Representative for the SickKids Annual Paediatric Update Planning Committee. Internationally, she sits on the International Pediatric Simulation Society Education Committee and is the Medical Director for IPSS monthly webinars. She holds a Master of Health Science Education and an Advanced Fellowship in Simulation Education, and has extensive experience in curriculum design, program evaluation, and educational scholarship.
Dr. Simone will be a critical member of the PGME team to realize a strengthening and modernization of our fellowship programs and to oversee the growth and sustainability of our Area of Focused Competence (AFC) programs.
