Department of Medicine Weekly Roundup - January 11
Please see below for the following updates:
- Patient Relations team centralizing services across Unity Health
- Reminder: DoM MTP- Co-Director Roles (Close date: Monday January 15, 2024)
- Gustavo Saposnik is running as a candidate in this year’s OMA elections!
Effective Jan. 15, the Patient Relations team will be centralizing their services across Unity Health. This means that all patient relations specialists will support intake and resolution of feedback across all three sites. This will help to optimize Patient Relations coverage across the network.
Patient Relations at all three sites will now use a single phone number and email address: 416-864-5215 and [email protected]. Site-specific mailing addresses will continue to be used.
This change will not have any impact on the Patient Relations process and the team will continue to be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to help clinical teams troubleshoot challenging situations. Note: The Patient Relations formalized a hybrid model of work in April 2023, this means that the team is onsite three days per week and working remotely other days.
What this means for you and your team:
- If you are trying to reach Patient Relations, please use the new contact information: 416-864-5215 and [email protected].
- Please update any contact information you provide to patients and families and ensure your teams are aware of this change.
- The Patient Relations team will continue to support scheduled in-person meetings, as needed.
- As always, every effort should be made to resolve concerns in the area where they arise.
- If a concern can’t be resolved in the area, please provide Patient Relations contact information to patients, families and/or visitors. The team will respond to calls and emails promptly.
- You may be working with new people. The Patient Relations team includes: Ana Tran, Nicole Yuen, Sam Edgar, Yaser Ibrahim, Sandy Pacheco and Kaitlen McKenny.
For questions, please contact Sally-Ann Johnson, manager, Patient Experience.

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and all members of the Unity Health Community,
I’m honored to be running as a Board Member in the 2024 OMA elections.
- We recognize the multidimensional challenges within our healthcare system and the OMA mandate to advocate for all of us. Some members may not be pleased with or feel adequately represented by the OMA. I am applying for the position of OMA Board member to restore our collective identity and reclaim our fundamental rights.
- Professionally, I am a neurologist and senior scientist, holding a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard and Buenos Aires Universities, a PhD in Neuroeconomics from the University of Zurich, and a recent graduate of the ROTMAN-OMA Physician’s Leadership Program. I bring experience from various leadership roles at the hospital level, scientific organizations (American Heart Association, World Stroke Organization), and entrepreneurship (Founder and Chair, NeuroEconSolution.com, and SORCan.ca).
- On a personal note, I am grateful for my roles as a father, husband, lifelong learner, coach, and counselor, acknowledging my privilege. Please take the time to review my profile on Linkedin [in/gustavo-saposnik] and OMA.org to learn more about my relevant background and skills.
Every year, OMA elections play a critical role in advancing member interests. Since the governance transformation in 2020, several enhancements have been made to the elections process to ensure a fair and transparent outcome. Regardless of your choice of support, your voice matters. Please cast your ballot! Voting begins on Jan. 8, 2024.

I hope to be your voice and represent Unity Health at the OMA.
Thank you very much for your support.
Best regards,
Gustavo
