Please find below, from the OMA Chair, links to materials that may be of interest to your postgraduate trainees with OHIP billing numbers, as well as any faculty (including distributed and/or adjunct faculty) who may bill for insured services provided by postgraduate medical trainees under supervision.

The Education & Prevention Committee (EPC) is a joint committee of the Ontario Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA). The EPC’s primary goal is to educate physicians about submitting Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) claims for payment for the insured services they provide.

As co-chairs of the EPC, we are writing to draw your attention to recently published materials, including:

  • Billing by Postgraduate Medical Trainees with OHIP Billing Numbers

Over the past several years, The University of Toronto has been managing the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) Certificates of Merit adjudication process for faculty nominations. For the past few years, included in this process is the Rising Star Certificate of Excellence geared toward medical students, residents/fellows, and graduate students.

Guidelines

This award is intended to recognize outstanding education learners who have demonstrated a commitment and/or passion for medical education. This could be education research, curriculum or workshop development, leadership, advocacy, etc., that has had a positive impact for the health professions education community at their school or beyond.

The CAME Rising Star Certificate of Excellence consists of a certificate and the opportunity to write an article for the CAME Voice. The University of Toronto is entitled to award up to three awards: 1 for medical students; 1 for residents/fellows; 1 for graduate students.

Each Department of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is eligible to nominate one resident or clinical fellow for a Rising Star Certificate of Excellence Award.

Nomination Criteria

  1. All nominees must be registered with the Postgraduate Medical Education office for the current academic year.
  2. Nominees will have made a contribution to medical education deemed to be valuable within their medical school (teaching, assessment, evaluation, educational leadership, course coordination, education and research).
  3. Nominees should not have already been nationally awarded for this contribution.
  4. Members currently serving on the CAME Executive or CAME Board of Directors are not eligible.

Nominations should include:

  1. A letter from the Program Director outlining the specific contributions of the resident/clinical fellow in the area of education. Letters should not exceed two pages.
  2. A Curriculum Vitae of the candidate. This will only be used by the selection committee if clarification of the details in the nomination letter are required.

Nomination letters and CVs should be submitted electronically by 11:59pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, to Dr. Suzanne Schneeweiss, U of T's CAME Representative via [email protected]
