New Staff Profiles: The Department of Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Shazmeen Manji from the Division of Respirology, and Drs. Sunil Gupta and Pablo Olivera Sendra from the Division of Gastroenterology, to the active staff.
Dr. Shazmeen Manji: Shazmeen joins the Division of Respirology as Clinician Teacher and Lecturer as of February 2026. She earned her medical degree and completed her Internal Medicine residency at McMaster University, followed by subspecialty training in Respirology at the University of Toronto, with a focus on non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections and tuberculosis. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in System Leadership and Innovation at the University of Toronto. Dr. Manji has served as a Clinical Associate at St. Michael’s Hospital since July 2019.
Dr. Sunil Gupta: Sunil joins the Division of Gastroenterology in February 2026 as a Clinician Investigator and Assistant Professor. He is an advanced therapeutic endoscopist, gastroenterologist, and hepatologist from Sydney, Australia.
Dr. Gupta completed his gastroenterology training at Westmead Hospital, followed by three years of advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship training at Princess Alexandra Hospital (2021), Westmead Hospital (2022), and St. Michael’s Hospital (2023–2024). Most recently, he practised as an Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopist at Westmead Hospital in Sydney.
He is deeply committed to academic medicine and education, holding a Master of Public Health from the University of New South Wales. He currently serves as Co-Editor of Endoscopy and is a committee member of the ASGE Standards of Practice faculty.
Fun fact: Sunil has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa!
Dr. Pablo Olivera Sendra: Pablo joins the Division of Gastroenterology in February 2026 as a Clinician Investigator and Assistant Professor. He earned his medical degree and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Centro de Educación Médica e Investigaciones Clínicas (CEMIC), a leading academic medical centre in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He then completed his Gastroenterology training at Salvador University, where he served as an Assistant Professor for five years. During this time, he practised general gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy, helped develop an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) unit, and mentored residents and fellows.
Most recently, Pablo completed an Advanced Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital and St. Michael’s Hospital. He has also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
