Department of Medicine Weekly Roundup – January 15, 2026

Please be reminded that Sunrise and Soarian Clinicals – the legacy patient record systems used at St. Joseph’s and St. Michael’s, respectively – will be decommissioned on Jan. 27.

Historical data from Sunrise and Soarian has been retrieved and transferred to our new Epic EPR system and ELLKAY archive solution. Data is also available in ConnectingOntario. If you would like to learn how to access and locate legacy data within these systems, please join one of our virtual drop-in sessions held from 12:00–1:00 p.m. on the following dates using this Zoom link:

  • January 13
  • January 20
  • January 27
  • February 3

You will receive an email from CMaRS initiating the reappointment process the week of February 16, 2026.

The deadline to complete your application is March 31, 2026. Reappointments cover the time period of July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.

To assist with time pressures, the below five courses can be completed in advance of the reappointment period. They will be accepted if completed between December 1, 2025, and the reappointment deadline of March 31, 2026.

Mandatory learning modules for 2026 reappointment:

  1. Workplace Violence & Harassment
  2. Fire Safety, Security & Emergency Codes
  3. TAHSN Privacy & Cyber Security
  4. TAHSN Relations with Industry
  5. TAHSN Domestic Violence

Note: These modules must be completed, as outlined in the UHT Corporate Mandatory Training Policy.

All Department of Medicine members are reminded that the deadline to submit your 2025 continuing professional development (CPD) hours for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) without mandatory documentation is January 31, 2026. You can submit your hours online at MAINPORT on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada website. 

Please note that 2025 certificates of attendance for St. Michael's Hospital Medical Grand Rounds were emailed by Jessica Comilang in early December.

Each year, the University of Toronto’s Department of Medicine honours faculty members who have made significant and meaningful contributions to education, teaching, research, quality and innovation, humanism,

mentorship and clinical practice. These prizes and awards celebrate their faculty members and recognize the local and global impact of the Department of Medicine.

This year, they will be awarding the following faculty awards: 

-        Robert Hyland Award for Excellence in Mentorship (Mid-Career)
-        Robert Hyland Award for Excellence in Mentorship (Late Career) 
-        Department of Medicine Academy of Master Clinicians
-        Michael Gordon Award for Humanism in Medicine
-        Department of Medicine Teacher of the Year Award
-        Department of Medicine Mid-Career Teaching Award
-        Kaveh Shojania Award in Quality and Innovation
-        The William Goldie Prize and Travel Awards
-        Eaton Scholar Researcher of the Year Awards (one for basic/fundamental science or translational research and one for clinical research)

 
Details on how to submit a nomination are listed under each award. Nomination packages, including the nomination checklist, should be submitted in a single PDF file by February 28, 2026
