Yesterday evening, there was a demonstration on University Avenue that impacted Mount Sinai Hospital and involved participants climbing the scaffolding on the exterior of the building. This escalated activity is unacceptable and has left those who work and receive care there feeling unsafe.
We have reached out to our partners at Mount Sinai to offer support. Health care institutions in Ontario, including Unity Health Toronto, must remain a safe and inclusive place for everyone. Threatening and intimidating actions against the Jewish community will not be tolerated. Please read this memo on behalf of all the TAHSN hospital CEOs, including myself, in response to these events.
Events like these can make it very difficult to cope during these times. We encourage you to reach out to our Employee Assistance Program that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for immediate, confidential support. Staff, physicians and learners can also access this list of mental health and wellness resources.
Sincerely,
Tim Rutledge
President and CEO
Unity Health Toronto
Dr. Tom Steeves, Division of Neurology, will be leaving St. Michael’s Hospital as of February 29. Tom is moving to the Hudson Valley in New York State to begin a Movement Disorders program at a regional medical center. His SMH practice, mainly focused on movement disorders, has been closed and the division is in the process of recruiting. All the best to Tom on his next chapter!
Please see attached document which outlines wellness resources available to all physicians.
