There are 12 EPAs for clerkship students developed by the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), common to all specialties.

The March newsletter is attached, and more details can be found here.  Questions related to this initiative can be directed to the MD Program Office of Evaluation and Assessment at [email protected]

Dear DoM Members,

The SMH DFCM are looking for presenters for their Grand Rounds which occur at least two Thursdays a month, from 8:00-9:00am.

Over the years, your departments have contributed enormously to the provision of stimulating, relevant and engaging Grand Rounds to the family physicians in our department as well as to our colleagues at St. Joe's and in the community. They are often attended by our family medicine residents and many health discipline colleagues.

If you would like any additional information, please feel free to contact me or our wonderful Grand Rounds administrator Ed Ang ([email protected]). We are happy to help find a suitable date for presentations and answer any questions.

Kindest regards,

Thea

As of March 13, all integrated bedside terminals (IBTs) at St. Michael’s have a free new application called ‘Family Video Chat,’ which allows patients to video chat with friends and family through the terminal. With the app launched, patients can obtain and share a link with their loved ones, which will generate a new video chat.

All Clinical Leader Managers at St. Michael’s have been informed of the new app and received a variety of education materials. If you have any questions, please connect with your CLM or reach out to our IBT vendor, Health Hub, at 1-866-223-3686.

We are excited to announce the launch of 3 Patient Safety Education Modules.  Open to all staff and physicians, these interactive and virtual Modules were created to build knowledge in Patient Safety and help apply a Patient Safety lens to our day-to-day work.

1. Patient Safety Culture – Wednesday March 29 2023, 1pm-2pm

2. Human Factors – Wednesday April 26 2023, 1pm-2:30pm

3. Patient Safety Event Review – Wednesday May 31 2023, 1pm-2pm

Each Module has a specific focus and staff can register for one, two or all three. You do not need to attend Module 1 to attend Module 2 or 3; a participation certificate is granted for each Module completed. In addition, participants are awarded a patient safety Lanyard Pin if all 3 Modules are attended.

Please see attached flyer for Zoom registration details, and please share broadly with your staff.

Many thanks!

Warmly

Johanna

Dear Members of the Department of Medicine,

A Reminder that the nominations for the Murray Muirhead Award are being accepted.  The Murray Muirhead Award rewards those who demonstrate the qualities which he exemplified: exceptional clinical skills, academic excellence and humanity in the practice of medicine. Please see the attached file to read about his life. Three awards are given out annually to one resident at each of the PGY1, PGY2 and PGY3 levels.

The awards are determined based on the combined opinions of both the housestaff and the attending staff. For the residents, only those based at St. Michael's Hospital are eligible to receive and vote for the award. Please rank up to 3 individuals who you feel best demonstrate the qualities described above at each of the three levels and return your response by email [email protected] by April 14.
